What is the Sprite Sheet Maker?
Combine PNG images into a sprite sheet. Set columns, spacing and margins, then download a PNG and frame map.
Arrange separate image frames into a regular grid for a game engine or web animation. Each cell uses the largest frame dimensions, so differently sized images stay separate without being stretched.
Common Use Cases
- Game development: Combine exported character frames into one PNG sheet.
- Asset preparation: Rebuild a sheet after trimming or resizing individual sprites.
Features:
- Grid layout: Choose columns, spacing between cells and an outer margin.
- Frame map: Export JSON with the actual image positions and dimensions.
- Connected workflow: Save individual PNGs as ZIP or send them to Animator.
Usage Instructions:
- Choose PNG, JPEG or WebP images, or a ZIP. Files start in natural filename order, such as frame2 before frame10.
- Use the arrows to reorder images and × to remove an unwanted frame.
- Set columns, spacing and outer margin, then generate the preview again after changing settings.
- Check the sheet and download PNG, frame-map JSON or ZIP. Use Send to Animator to preview the individual frames.
Pro Tips:
- Use the same image dimensions for every frame when your engine expects a fixed grid.
- Trim unnecessary transparent space first, then use spacing to keep neighbouring cells apart.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Are differently sized images resized to fit?
A: No. A common cell is based on the largest width and height. Each image keeps its original pixels and is placed at the top left of its cell.
Q: Is the JSON an engine-specific import file?
A: It is a general frame map with positions and dimensions. Check your engine’s required format before importing it; it is not a Unity or Godot project file.
Q: Are my images uploaded to a server?
A: Image processing takes place in this browser. Explicit transfers between tools are stored only in this browser and can be removed with Clear saved transfers.
